The #1 Transition Struggle
Dear Parents,
Sec 1 IP math students are expected to be independent learners, a huge shift from P6.
The familiar Model Based Thinking students used in primary school has now changed drastically into Algebraic Thinking.
In Primary school, they relied on drawing proven models to solve problems. Now, they are expected to manipulate variables and unknowns, which will always be scary to all.
It doesn’t matter if your child did score well in PSLE. We’ve seen plenty of AL1 students score C6 because they still stick to the models based approach.
This is why we advocate for a great foundation from secondary 1 as algebra is the fundamental for the rest of IP math.
How Your Child Learns Differently With Outperformers
Outdated Way: Learn And Forget With 1 “IP Only” Class A Week
- Students are sold that they need a separate IP tuition class curriculum even though topics are the same.
- Spend the same 2h class/week and mass produced homework like school. This isn’t enough for mastery.
- Research shows: students forget 90% of what they learn with only 1 class a week.
New Way: 1st and Only Math Specialist With Dual Class System™
- The real problem: IP tests are designed to be harder to expose weaknesses. So students need a personalised way of targeting their weak concepts.
- We have an extra weekly practice class to drill each student’s weak concepts into strengths.
- That’s how our IP students top their classes/cohorts without “IP-only” classes. From our test of 200 students, students with our system scored 45% higher!
Here’s How The Dual Class System™ Works
Step 1: Decode Problems Like An Examiner
❌Don’t understand what the question is asking for
❌ Reliant on memorising procedures rather than problem solving
❌ Struggle with unfamiliar questions
In class 1 lesson, we teach students with our proprietary decoder to
✅ Break down past 10 years of exam questions
✅ Identify core concepts like an examiner
✅ Apply the right problem solving method
Once students learn to decode, even the hardest questions become manageable.
Step 2: Timed Tests To Build Exam Proficiency
❌ Crack under pressure and make more mistakes.
❌ Don’t know if they’re improving till months later
❌ Don’t get any feedback
Every class 1 lesson ends with
✅ Timed test of the past 1 month of concepts to build exam readiness
✅ Tracking their proficiency in 100+ sub concepts in the syllabus in our student tracking sheet
✅ Personalised feedback on what to improve after class
This allows you to stay up to date with visible weekly progress across all their concepts.
Step 3: Personalised Targeted Practice Till Mastery
❌ Give “one size fits all” homework
❌ Don’t enforce students to practice
❌ Leave students alone to practice wrongly
In practice class 2, we
✅ Create a personalised plan to target their weaker concepts from the test
✅ Revise past concepts to retain their learnings
✅ Guide them through any doubts so they’re never left behind
While others waste time travelling to centres to practice 1x a week, we practice 2x online a week to get way ahead.
